Cover Art Design: Premeditated Murder
Tuesday, July 20, 2010
I heard a new song yesterday that was leaked by an upcoming rap artist/ producer called J. Cole. The song is called Premeditated Murder. For those of you who aren’t too familiar with rap music, J. Cole has been building a buzz around himself for a while, not only because of a really good mix tape, (The Warm Up), but also because he was signed to Jay-z’ label “Roc Nation”. Anticipation for his debut album gets bigger everyday, and this leaked song only ads fuel to the flame that is J. Cole.
I’ve never really designed art specifically for album or song covers, but it is something that I’ve always wanted to try. Seeing as how I’ve been inspired by J. Cole’s music lately, I decided to try and design a cover for the leak/ potential single. While listening to the song, there was a line that stood out to me the most. It goes, “Knew I would kill the game, premeditated murder ”. This one line, I believe, describes the concept of the song and the reasoning behind the title in the simplest way. It’s this kind of wit, combined with his producing skills, (he produced the beat himself), that will ensure his longevity in the game.
By the way, the art is free to use and share, just please credit me and link back to my page.
