Monday, August 2, 2010 David Lanham is a very talented illustrator and designer. When he's not making goodies over at the Icon Factory, he's knocking out wonderful illustrations in print and wallpaper formats. More recently he has been creating portraits of his friends to add to his arsenal.
His style of illustration is very unique and original, but what I admire most about David, (besides his amazing skills), is that he is willing to share his illustration process with everyone. Most people would want to keep their techniques and processes a secret. As someone who's always trying to learn, It's nice to observe and absorb from the best. Check out the video below showing his process when illustrating Dan Benjamin.

(... we should note that the Journal’s signature dot-ink portraits weren’t launched until 1979, and this season “Mad Men” takes place in 1964. But you have to admit Draper’s hedcut looks pretty cool.)

This is a painting I did a while back of my grandfather, my mother’s father, for the one-year anniversary of his passing.
Saturday, December 12, 2009 I thought I would start of my blog by posting this very interesting video of one of my favorite designers, Milton Glaser. In this short film, he lectures about the importance of drawing, while simultaneously drawing a portrait of Shakespeare. For those of you who’ve never heard of Milton Glaser, he is one of most influential designers of the past half-century. Milton Glaser is mostly known for designing the “I (heart) NY” logo.
The book he mentions in the video, Drawing is Thinking, is already available for purchase. It definitely seems like an interesting read.
